At the end of August Newsmax  agreed to settlement and will  pay $67 million to Dominion Voting Systems.  A Delaware judge ruled Newsmax aired false information and defamed the company when it claimed Dominion rigged the 2020 election.  The case was settled before it went to a jury.

Fox News, in the same court in Delaware, agreed to pay Dominion $787.5 million. The Associated Press reported that, “Dominion set out to prove in the lawsuit that Fox acted with malice in airing allegations that it knew to be false, or with “reckless disregard” for the truth. It presented volumes of internal emails and text messages that showed Fox executives and personalities saying they knew the accusations were untrue, even as the falsehoods were aired on programs hosted by Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs and Jeannine Pirro.”

Paramount was in negotiations to sell CBS to SkyDance and that had to be approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) whose chair Brendan Carr is a Trump loyalist. He has said he wants to  moderate free speech.

ABC agreed to pay Trump $15 million to for his library and another $1 million to his law firm to settle a defamation suit. Anchor George Stephanopoulos had inaccurately said that Trump had been found civilly guilty of raping writer E. Jean Carroll.  Trump was found guilty of sexually abusing and defaming Carroll and he was told to pay her $5 million. In a second trial in Manhattan federal court, Trump was found liable on additional defamation claims and ordered to pay Carroll $83.3 million.  Trump appealed and an appellate court upheld the verdict in July.
