City College Protest Exercise

CITY COLLEGE, Harlem

Oct.7, 2026

A student protest drew a crowd on The City College of New York  (CCNY) campus on the third anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel. Organizers from the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA)  waved Palestinian flags and carried signs calling for divestment by CUNY in corporations that manufacture weapons sold to Israel.

The two student clubs had called for a walk-out from classes. About 75 students showed up for the demonstration in front of the North Academic Building (NAC).  Activists told the approximately 75 students who came to protest to pay attention to the way CUNY uses taxpayer money and invests pension funds in defense contractors and others corporations that support Israel.

The nine protest leaders chanted, “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free.”  They charged Israel with genocide of the Palestinian people.
